Knowin' A Lot 'Bout That!

Quite a familiar statement around the Short household lately is "The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That"! Skyler has been learning all about Dr. Seuss at school and by the end of the week, we all enjoyed a party celebrating Dr. Seuss! 

Highlands Grove is such an awesome school and offers so much for the children besides education. The party was full of games, face painting and crafts...plus yummy birthday cake! 

The Princess got her face painted first by Kindergarten teach, Mrs. Groover.

Skyler played a few games, but her favorite was pin the hat on the cat. Her teacher Mrs. Fitzsimmons wore the cutest costume while assisting the children.

Not only did she see her teacher and Mrs. Maryl, but she saw her new friend Sebastion along with Ellie and Reese.

I've made a few new friends myself, through volunteering at the school. *Yeah* We even started a Wacky Wednesday Lunch group. Here is a picture of one of my friends, Brandi. (Sebastian's Mum) Yes, I double her in age, but it works and we have a blast together!

Starting March Right

Time to blow the dust off this blog and unload my heart. What a fantastic way to start the month of March~spending almost every waking moment with this wonderful four year old...

Our March 1st weekend was packed full of books, arts, sports and celebrations! We enjoyed time at the library, discovering Dr. Seuss. Because his birthday was that Sunday (same as Uncle Bogie's) and the entire school week would be dedicated to his contributions, Sky and I thought it would be neat to read as many Dr. Seuss books as possible.

Skyler wanted to wear her homemade Dr. Seuss hat to the library and then dove into her chosen books.

We traveled a short 25 minutes to Bartow to enjoy the Blooming Arts Festival. What a perfect day, filled with plenty of sunshine and gorgeous paintings.

We looked at a lot of exhibits.

 And enjoyed whimsical characters and ice cream!

Night time fun included dinner at Ruby Tuesday with Daddy and then a Florida Southern Boy's Basketball game.

 The Princess got to met the school's mascot, Mocsie, up close. She couldn't stop smiling!

We ran into the Knowles' Family and this made the basketball game much more entertaining for Skyler. See for your self!

Sweet Friends!

Although the Mocs were down at one time by 14 points, they pulled it out in the end and we all went home happy! Great game...

Sunday involved church, shopping and getting everything ready for Monday's school day. Skyler said the best part of the day was calling Uncle Bogie to wish him a Happy Birthday! We brought 13 Dr. Seuss inspired cupcakes to school that Monday morning. 11 for the students, one for the teacher and the 13th one for Uncle Bogie! It was a double birthday celebration!

Winner Winner!

You've probably heard me mention Highlands Grove Elementary's walk-a-thon over the past few months. The actual event took place in October and I recently blogged about Skyler's rewards, including Patrol for the Day, for the amount of pledges she collected. 

Last Thursday, the 27th, Skyler received her final three rewards. 1) Limousine ride to Steak-n-Shake for a 2) free dinner and 3) a $100 gift card to Target!! It was an exciting day for the Princess and I was blessed to capture all the joy.

Thirteen students reached the award level of the Limo & Dinner prize. Skyler's sweet friend Ellie, was one of those 13 students, so it was comforting knowing Sky had a pal to share it with. 

Before the students (ranging from PreK to 5th grade) rode in luxury, The top 3 Participants raising the most money in pledges were awarded gift cards to Target. Skyler came in first place raising over $630, earning the $100 top gift card. Her friend Ellie was second in pledges and received a $75 gift card. Third place ($50 gift card) was given to a boy in 4th or 5th grade. Sorry, no picture. I was too excited for Ellie & Sky.

The girls then gathered with the rest of the award recipients in the school office before the grand event. 

 They divide the students into two groups and Skyler's went first.

The first statement out of Sky's mouth was, "Wow Mommy, it's so big and it has a couch in here!" Just look at her face.....pure excitement!

 I waved goodbye and then followed behind.

And waited for the second group to arrive. Coloring and laughter were abundant. They even got to order a famous shake! Sky chose the M & M's one! 

I sat at a separate table with another Mommy and just beamed with joy for what Skyler was experiencing. She even came over to my table to check on me to make sure I was doing alright. Such a sweetie. How blessed am I?

After a wonderful dinner, it was time to enjoy the limo ride back to school. Skyler had such a pep in her step while singing!

When I met her back at school, Skyler mentioned that the limo had glasses with cute napkins. Definitely a day to remember. I just loved it for her!!!
