Sporting #8

The Princess joined the Lakeland Futbal Club a few months ago and practice officially began on September 16th! She wears #8 on the Red Thunder soccer team! Each team (4-5 year olds) is made up of 6-8 players. The recreational practice meets each Monday night, with games every Saturday morning.
The rules for Skyler's program is much different than the older age groups. There are no referees. The coaches keep the game flowing by simply rolling the ball in underarm, from anywhere on the field, generally to a child on either team that is not getting involved in the game. The coaches have been instructed at times to delay putting the ball back into play so it doesn't become anaerobic.

Here's a great pic of our athlete during last Monday's practice. She loves kicking the ball.
 Soccer=Smiles!

Skyler's first game game was last Saturday. Doesn't she look adorable in her uniform? Go Red Thunder!!!
 Our Sweet #8!
When we arrived, Coach Jason had the team work on some drills.

Then the team gathered for their first match....

Emphasis is not on winning. The kids all have equal playing time and they have a lesson plan that has age appropriate fun activities and techniques to teach Skyler. Learning to play soccer is secondary to most things in our little girl's life, so we keep her excited with a variety of fun activities with her own ball!

The games last one full hour, with four breaks in between.

Then it's back to running and trying to score a goal.

By 9:30AM, the game was over and the teams lines up do do the official High Five. So darn cute!

Orange slices and cold water were handed to every player for their team work. The Princess is eager to score a goal in the next game!
We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at our friend's pool for a few hours since they were out of town.

What a great Saturday! Lots of exercise and tons of smiles involved for sure.

Cubbies Is Back!!!

Awana is back which means Skyler just started her second year of Cubbies! She was one excited little girl. Sky loves learning about God - the greatness of His love and His word - and about His son, Jesus Christ, the promised Savior!
A few changes have been made this year. First, classes are now on Sunday evenings instead of Wednesdays. This helps our family a bunch, since the Princess was not getting home until 8:30 and had to get up for Kiwanis at 5:45 the next morning. Also, the hours have changed from 6:30-8PM to 6-7:30PM. Insert another happy face!

The children will still enjoy puppet shows and exciting games that reinforce the Story Time lessons, but the handbook has changed from Hopper Celebration to the Appleseed & Honeycomb handbooks. Both combine scripture memory with parent-child activities to help Skyler grasp biblical truths. The curriculum is written in full, storybook style with read-aloud stories and lovable characters that appeal to PreK kids.
Sky has not only added badges to her vest (from all her hard work from last year), but she now sports a new Cubbie shirt and her very own book bag! By May of 2014, her vest will be completed, displaying all her awards and she will graduate to the next level.....Sparks! Sparks is a 3 year program (K thru 2 grade). The program will ignite Skyler's curiosity to learn about the people and events of the bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ.

I believe in my heart that Skyler is learning each Sunday at church, as well as home. Please allow me to share the most recent conversation we had while driving to school:

Skyler: Mummy, I'm going to do my very best today!
Me: That's wonderful, Skyler!
Skyler: You wanna know why?
Me: Why, Princess?
Skyler: Because I might get to meet Jesus today which also means I get to see Papa, Grandma Iona and Bama!
Me: That's right, Skyler. Today could be the day that Jesus returns, as promised!

One word.......P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S!!

Our Cover Girl

You can only imagine my surprise when I opened up the Florida Southern College Wellness newsletter and saw Skyler in the upper left corner! She was one of the 5 children chosen out of 350 to grace the cover! I'm probably a bit biased, but I think they picked the right girl for the job. Sky loves swimming and her enthusiasm for the sport shows! She recently received her American Red Cross swimmer's card.

We will definitely return next summer for more liquid fun while enhancing her swimming abilities. The Aquatic Center has just started offering adult swim classes, so perhaps we could get a combined deal if Gammey registers! lol

The Party Goer!

Skyler recently attended back-to-back weekend birthday parties for two of her sweet friends she met during her Pre School days at First Methodist Church. The first party Sky went to was Jordan's 4th Birthday at Chuck E. Cheese's. The Princess was so happy to see Jordan, the Birthday girl!
Sky had a fabulous time seeing many of her old friends.
 Bella, included!
The party started with pizza and sub sandwiches and then tokens were handed out to each party goer. I have to admit, this was my first visit to the family fun entertainment center and it did not disappoint. I liked how they separated the games and rides into age appropriate zones.
 Let the fun begin!

We returned back to the party table to watch Chuck E. perform a rock out performance! Sky thought this was super cool and was determined to meet the animated character.

She wasted no time introducing herself!
 Photo Op!
Singing to Jordan....
Cake time is always funny time!

Girl chat....
After a serving of delicious cake, the party rocked on with Skyler jamming on an air guitar and playing some more games!

The horse was definitely a hit!

As well as the basketball game.
Ready, set.....
SCORE! She's quite the athlete.
The very next weekend, we drove to the north side of town to help celebrate Hannah's 4th birthday. Hannah and Jordan enjoyed Skyler's 4th b-day and yes, Hannah is another classmate during Sky's early pre-school years. Although they now go to different schools, I keep in touch with the parents so the girls can plan play dates.
Hannah's birthday centered around a balloon artist and a massive inflatable water slide.

Talk about a great afternoon! The party lasted an additional 2 hours thanks to this amazing 20 foot water slide with an attached mini pool. You just know that Skyler was one happy little girl.
She's at the top waiting for the drop.....
It was super speedy....
And refreshing!

The afternoon went something like this......Climb the steps, down the slide, big splash in the pool, jump up and repeat....

Skyler and Jordan even went down together
Repeat the fun....
The girls did take a quick break for lunch and birthday cake. Sweet friends below...Jordan, Hannah & Sky!

Cupcake yummy with Bella...
Let the outdoor fun continue! The party ended at 3PM, but Hannah's Mom allowed the girls to enjoy another 2 hours. Talk about a great babysitter and an instant water park in your back yard! Heck, when I was a kid, I thought the slip and slide was pretty cool. It was a great Saturday and I enjoyed listening to the laughter and watching the smiles get bigger!
