Not only was May 29th special because of baby Skyler's birthday, but it was also the day we chose to have her Christened. None of us, as babies, can recall our own Christening service because, obviously we're far too young to remember. So I'm sure, on behalf our precious daughter, that everybody at the 10:30 service will one day tell her what a wonderful occasion it was. It meant the world to Tom and I to have her family be apart of this celebration. As you can see in the picture above, it was a joyous and well attended event!
The service was held at the same church (The William Danforth Chapel) were Tom & I exchanged our wedding vows. Pastor George Williams married us on that beautiful July 5th afternoon and we thought it was only appropriate for him to bless our child and have her receive God's unconditional love.
Skyler was dressed in a lovely white gown bought by her Grandparents. Hundreds of children are Christened daily, but as far as I'm concerned, Skyler was far more gorgeous and special, clever and beautiful, adorable and wonderful than all the rest of them put together. But there's little old me speaking out of turn again!
The service was perfect and Pastor George gave a wonderful speech about love and raising our daughter in a Godly home. Even at the tender age of one, Skyler is embarking upon a special journey in life. As her journey gets underway, it's an amazing feeling knowing that our family will continue to be supportive and loving as they teach her to follow God's footsteps.
Below are two pictures of Skyler being dedicated to Christ and the Christian faith. Pastor George sprinkled water on her tiny forhead from a small sterling silver pitcher that once belonged to her Grandma Iona Short .
Auntie Cheryl presented her own Christening braclet to Pastor George. He then blessed it and we placed it on Skyler's wrist. This heirloom was such a special addition to the ceremony and as you can see in the three pictures below, she was fascinated with it!
Although the service only lasted 20 minutes, it will remain a lifelong memory. Skyler was such a good little girl during the ceremony, but she definitely wanted out of her dress once we finished. I guess being in that layered gown for a whole hour was enough! After our group picture with Glammey & Papa, Auntie Cheryl & Uncle Charles, Auntie Nicola, Auntie Kevie & Uncle Larry, Cousins Jodi, Jared & Matt, Dustin, Jordan, Jamie, Alisha, GrandLee and even Pastor George, we undressed her and let her enjoy the sunshine in only her bloomers! I did manage to get a few pictures before departing to the Chapel. Thank you, dear Family, for making May 29th a distinguished day!
