This past Saturday we enjoyed a fun filled day at Lakeland's First Annual Ice Cream Festival. We were treated to family entertainment, activities, animals, live music and acts and of course ice cream from national and local vendors on a beautiful day at the legendary Joker Marchant Stadium at Tiger Town!
I volunteered and worked behind the scenes weeks prior to the festival, so it was wonderful to see everyone's hard work come together, forming a successful event. Over 25,000 people attended and the money raised will help sponsor youth programs and schools in Lakeland.
The festival had many wooden characters along the walk path and Skyler made sure to greet each one!
Helping our family celebrate the official opening of Ice Cream season were the Hawxwell Family. Sky was happy to see her buddy Reese, so I'm certain the festival excitement went up a full notch!
The Lakeland Police Department had their horses on display and of course our animal lover had to say hello. She quickly told the police officer that her Auntie Chez has horses and donkeys.
What's an ice cream display without a plastic decorative cow?
We walked around the venue and took in all the sites and local artisans.
The event exceeded the sponsor's expectations by 20,000 people! Luckily for us, the girls were able to enjoy ice cream before the vendors ran out. Bet you didn't know that it takes an average of 50 licks to polish of an ice cream cone!
Friends just make everything sweeter!
Before leaving the Festival, the girls took a tour in a fire truck and posed for a few pictures.
It turned out to be a great, old-fashioned neighborhood event that we hope will continue in our quaint town for years to come!
