School Orientation

Last Thursday was school orientation day at Highland Grove Elementary from 8:30-10:30. Skyler was so eager to meet her teacher, Mrs Fitzsimmons.
Because the school is only 7/10 of a mile away, we arrived rather quickly. What a pleasant drive :) In fact, we've decided once the school year starts, we would walk to school each Friday, since it's dress down day for Mummy! (weather permitting)
We were one of the first in line at the check in gate.
The three of us went to the cafeteria first to see our dear friend Maryl Richey, who is the school's guidance counselor. She's known Skyler since birth and I remember her telling me that Sky would soon be going to her school. I never grasped that idea until NOW! My, how quickly those four years flew by!

We were the first family to walk into room #124!
Skyler spent some quality time talking to her new teacher, Mrs. Fitzsimmons. Her desk is the very first one, as you can in the above picture. Each child was given their own school supplies, kept neatly in a green plastic basket. So sweet! (a close up shown below)
 Say hello to Miss PreK.......
Skyler's, BFF, Reese, walked in immediately after with her mommy, Miss Leah. The two get to continue their education together from preschool to PreK. How exciting!
 Our besties.....
The cute card waiting for each student....
"Hooray For You Skyler! From The Heart, Mrs Fitzsimmons"
The Princess asked if she could bring her teacher a gift on Monday, the very first day of school, so we put our thinking caps on and choose a apple theme basket full of goodies.

We definitely had fun shopping on Friday. Here's the list of contents: 2 Apple Nutri Grain Cereal Bars, 2 Bath & Body Works Apple Scented anti bacteria hand gel with a matching apple scented candle, Quaker real medley's Apple Oatmeal, Kellogg's Apple Jacks, 2 bags of Apple Chips, an apple note pad, 6 red pens, red paper clips and of course every teacher deserves a red golden delicious apple!
 Good smelling stuff....
 Breakfast to go....
 Snacks anytime....
And a few red school supplies....
 Grabbed a black wire basket....
 With some decorated ribbon....
 A homemade gift tag....
 Putting it all together....
Ta-da! A great gift under $15!

Skyler is looking forward to giving her teacher the gift on Monday morning. I'm tickled it turned out so well. Being married to a teacher has made me realize even more, just how hard they work for such limited pay. We need to embrace our teachers and remind them how special they are!

  1. Mrs. Fitzsimmons will love her gift and she will love Skyler. That is a very thoughtful present.
