Many of you know my passion for Kiwanis and my mission to continue teaching Skyler the importance of volunteering in her community. After all, a community can not exist without volunteers!
For the past few months, we have been working hard, raising money and collecting school supplies for the thousands of children in Lakeland who could start the new school year off without the basic classroom necessities.
It all came together this past Wednesday! My Kiwanis club held it's 14th Annual Stuff The Bus and Skyler and I were there to help sort and distribute supplies to 29 Lakeland area pubic schools. The Princess worked hard for two hours (7am-9am) and I was so proud of her! She would grab supplies and just go up and down the rows, dropping one in each box.
After completing our first hour, we enjoyed a refreshing drink before getting back out there in the hot sun.
Sky was definitely the youngest volunteer on site and she certainly is no stranger to the Kiwanis family. Our loving tot has been attending Kiwanis meetings and events since she was four weeks old. I still think she's the cutest member we have! :)
After the last pencil, ruler, paper, crayon and eraser was dropped, we then watch the Kiwanians loaded the loot into their trucks to deliver some happiness to the schools. Did I mention how proud I was of my Sweetie? :) She was one tired little Angel and by lunch time she was ready for her nap, which lasted 3 hours!
Our Kiwanis club raised over $55,000.00 in supplies! The program has grown to not only assist those students and families who need help at the start of the school year, but also benefits our hard working teachers. In order for these children to be ready to learn, they need proper school supplies and we will definitely be on board that bus next year!
Well done Skyler. I am so proud of you!
